I saw this the other day and thought it was a great way to think about how BIM works in our industry....

View Level Association

One thing to remember in Revit is that Plan Views in your model are associated to a level, and they are associated to this level forever. The Views Associated Level Parameter is greyed out and cannot be changed.

This means that if you need to create a new Level or Plan view of your model ensure you are aware of the Associated Level.

It is never a good Idea to copy up level markers to create a new level as the new level will have the associated level of the original copied level.

If you need to create a new level in your model, use the appropriate Level tool located in the Architecture ribbon.

When you are using the Duplicate tool to create additional plan views of your model, ensure you are using the correct original view to begin with. Just because you rename it and adjust the View Range, it still may not have the correct Associated Level.

Room Reference

When you have Rooms placed in your model it can difficult to see there extents without having to move your mouse around to find the cross that indicates the extent of the room. This cross is called the Room Reference.

In the Views Visibility Graphics under the Rooms Category you have the ability to turn on the Room References. They are turned off by default. This will allow you to see all of the Rooms that have been placed in your model without having to move around and find them.

If you also turn on the Interior Fill, your rooms will also be shaded blue.

Now you can check all of your rooms easily.

Just make sure you turn the sub-categories back off before you start printing.

Thanks for any who attended the RTC and voted for my Lego Tower. It was the winner of the Innovation category.

Now I just need to come up with an idea for next year!!!

Revit Technology Competition

I am heading off to the Revit Technology Conference in the Hunter Valley tomorrow, it should be another exciting event, getting to check out what the industry has been up to over the last year. I have also decided this year to enter the RTC Project Competition in the Innovation category. I have put together a Revit model of an apartment building made out of Lego, utilising Adaptive Components, Curtain Panel Pattern Based Families, Mass Forms and Dynamo Script......So after many hours of work, and pushing my computer to the limit, I am pretty happy with the finished product.

Apply and OK

When you are making changes to your parameters, you don’t have to hit APPLY and then OK.

If you click the APPLY Button it will commit the changes to the model, even if you click the CANCEL button the changes will be applied. The CANCEL button will only cancel any changes not applied to the model.

The OK button will apply the changes and close the dialog box.
