Divided Surfaces Alignment

In the conceptual modelling environment, if you have a trapezoidal face that isn’t a perfect square or rectangle, when you divide this flat surface the resulting grid will be applied at an assumed rotation, aligning itself to the angled edge. 9 times out of 10 this is not the result you were looking for.

Hide Unreferenced Views

When you are preparing your views for documentation one thing that is inevitable is that you have plenty of unreferenced views visible. Visually they tend to clutter your views.

Openings in Multiple Walls

Walls can be constructed in many ways in your Revit Project. If you are using multiple wall types to construct your wall, one thing you may notice is that when you insert a door or window it will only cut one of the walls.

To get the door to cut multiple walls, all you have to do is join the walls together and the opening will be cut through both walls. This tool is located in the Modify Ribbon. Just pick join and select both of the walls in question.

This process will cut the door opening in the joined wall.

The only problem with this result is that the frame is only being produced in the original wall, if this is a problem in your documentation, then adding a couple of parameters to the frame in the door family will allow you to manually adjust the fame width.

Have you ever needed a wall to have the outer or inner skin extending past the base or top constraint?

Another Funny Revit Error Message

Here is another one of those obscure error messages you get from time to time…….although this one does have a meaning…..

Isn’t it obvious!!!! (queue sarcasm)

If you get this message, check to see if you are running low on server space. Might be time you cleaned up the server a little and archive a few projects….

Grid Center Segments

Sorry for the long delay between posts....I have been totally snowed under....even sleep has had to take a back seat....

Grid display in your model views can sometimes be problematic, with the grid dominating the line work in the views.

There is an option to change the display of your grids, by removing the central segment of the grid line. This will give you the opportunity free the middle of your grid line for the model to show through. The standard is to have the full grids, it is just a display option for an occasion that the grids are to dominating in views.

If you select a Grid and go into its type properties, you will see many graphics options for the Grid representation. The Center Segment, will allow you to toggle between Continuous, None and Custom.

If you set it to None, it will remove the central portion of the grid line, you will then have to adjust the end segments to where you would like. Just remember this is a type parameter so it will apply to all the grids!!!
